What is One-Hit machining?

One-hit machining (single hit machining) is the production of components from raw material in one machining cycle thus eliminating secondary machining processes on the part.

What are the benefits?

This technique massively increases the productivity of a CNC machine by reducing the time to make the part from hours down to minutes and helping reduce material wastage.

Also any 'bad' parts or problems with the machining process are identified earlier since all operations are performed within a short space of time in the same machining cycle.

How can Citizen technology help you to achieve one-hit machining?

Citizen Cincom Sliding Head and Miyano Fixed Head CNC machinery is ideally suited to achieving this with features such as:

  • Large tooling capacity, some models featuring multiple, multi-tool turrets capable of holding over 80 fixed and live tools to cover all machining processes required to manufacture your part in one-hit.

  • Multi-axis flexible machining with up to 14 axis of control on the top models allowing complex machining to be performed on all of the features of your part as efficiently as possible in one cycle.

  • Twin spindles – enable work to be performed on the front and back of the part in the same machining cycle (often simulateously).

  • High accuracy and thermal stability with superb surface finish – often completely eliminating the need for any finishing operations such as grinding.
