CITIZEN M32-V

Technology for the New Millennium

Super-efficient and economic machining of complex parts up to 32mm in diameter in short cycle times. The user-friendly design simplifies programming and operation utilising the latest CITIZEN technology.

Improvements over the M32-III:

  • The addition of a 44 mm total Y-axis cross-feed and newly designed toolholders (such as a double toolholder, a triple sleeve holder and double cross-spindle holder) flexibility and performance are elevated to a higher plane.
  • Idle times are lowered with these toolholders because turret indexing is reduced and, for setting turning tools, a software compensation function eliminates manual adjustment making tool positioning very quick. Added flexibility is also provided for milling tasks.
  • The new Y-axis turret can work in conjunction with the drilling station (3 positions) and vertical tool platen (which has four driven tools and five turning tools) to enable additional mill/drill tasks.

Features of the M32-V
  • Three multi-tool stations for ultra-fast production and minimal idle time.
    • Vertical tool holder with 5 turning tools and 3 rotary tools.
    • 10-position multi-tool turret for front and back machining; all positions driven (1.5 / 2.2kW, 5000rpm). 60+ tools can be mounted.
    • 3-station (5 optional) back machining unit for fixed and driven tools (up to 2 driven positions possible - 0.75kW, 5000rpm).
  • New, higher-speed processing control with fast-acting macros for operations such as thread chasing.
  • High spindle speeds can be used with accurate pitch control during acceleration/deceleration routines.
  • To ensure setter/operator confidence, a fast cycling program check for format and syntax errors can be made without machine movement. Cycle time is also displayed to help with program optimisation.
  • The advanced control allows simultaneous front and back machining with up to 3 tools 'in-cut' for maximum efficiency.
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics are all replaced by highly reliable servos. The latest AC-drive technology reduces idle times and simplifies machine setup. Opening and closing of the collet and operation of the parts ejector are all controlled by servo-motors.
  • 14 Axes of control, 10 primary, 4 auxiliary.
  • Super-fast turret indexing.
  • Workpiece length up to 320mm without re-chucking, long parts option available for parts up to 600mm+ in length.
  • Wide-opening door provides convenient accessibility to the operating area to aid easy tool setting.
  • Impressive range of standard equipment including parts gantry unloading system.
  • Ideal for heavy machining.
  • Super-fast changeovers between jobs.

Tool Layout

Tool system 1: Vertical Tool Holder
  • 4 rotary cross-drilling / milling spindles and 5 turning tools for turning, grooving, screw-cutting, parting-off etc.
  • Standard Y-axis facilitates tool centre height adjustment and enables complex operations to be carried out with ease.

Tool system 2: 10-Station Turret
  • Allows front and back machining.
  • Power driven tools available for all 10 stations (5000 RPM, 1.5 / 2.2kW).
  • Multiple tool holders and intermediate indexing allow 60+ tools to be fitted.
  • Additional Y-Axis on turret allows tool change without turret indexing and tool offset adjustment in 3 axes.
  • New tool holders such as the double tool holder, triple sleeve and double cross-spindle take full advantage of Y-axis.
  • The turret plays various roles other than cutting such as:
    • Part Handler - This function retrieves the picked-off parts from the back spindle, preventing the machined parts from damage or distortion. The retrieved parts are stored in the stocker, or carried out of the machine by an unloading device.
    • Automatic Part Gauger - The special gauging unit can be installed on a turret station to measure on-machine the ID and OD of the machined parts automatically.
    • Automatic Tool Detector - The special tool wear detector can also be installed on a turret station to detect, measure and compensate the tool wear automatically.
    • Teaching Command - You can store in memory and repeat complex or arbitrary rotational movements of tool turret. This is easily achieved through the use of the menu keys and color LCD screen.

Tool system 3: Opposed Tool Post
  • 3 stationary spindles for machining the back of the component.
  • Allows operations such as drilling, tapping, screw-cutting, boring and turning to be carried out in ‘hidden time’.
  • If the parts gantry unloader is not fitted then a 5 stationary-position unit can be fitted as an alternative.
  • Optionally two positions can be power driven (with 0.75kW, 5000RPM motor) with the U151B drilling holder.

Simultaneous Machining

The M-Series combines the best of the patented superimposed & synchronised control and the multi-axis/multi-line integrated control from other machines in the Citizen range. Therefore, the possibilities for multi-tool, simultaneous machining have increased tremendously. For example:

  • Whilst OD turning with a gang plate tool, ID turn with a turret tool.
  • Whilst frontworking with a gang plate tool, backwork with a turret tool.

The multifunction/multi-tool capabilities of the M-Series, combined with the faster processing speed of its CNC controller, will help significantly reduce cycle time and efficiency and ultimately increase your profits.

CNC System

Citizen’s used-friendly operating system using Mitsubishi Meldas 635 series hardware with Microsoft Windows 2000 interface. A 64 bit RISC processor ensures that all machine functions are performed and controlled in the shortest of times. This includes the fast processing of extensive program blocks.

A fully positionable large 10.4" colour LCD control panel allows simultaneous viewing of working area and screen. A hand wheel allows safe and easy program prove-out.

The Microsoft Windows interface includes pictorial references to guide the user step-by-step through operation sequences helping to minimise the time for changeovers and set-ups.

Collet operation, workpiece ejection and even the magazine bar feed are operated by servo-motors. The control system fully synchronises the axes and enables a high degree of simultaneous front and back machining (with up to 3 tools in-cut at once). The software simplifies programming to enable a fast learning curve even for first time users.

A large number of software options are available including Gear Hobbing and Polygon Turning. A comprehensive standard specification is included.

The system is equipped with RS232, PCMCIA and (optional) LAN interfaces for program transfer.
