What is Hard Turning?

  • Hard Turning is the direct turning of heat treated material using Cubical Boron Nitride (CBN) and/or Ceramic Tooling.

  • Eliminates the requirement for grinding operations.

  • Up to HRC65 heat treated material can be turned.

  • Allows fine grinding tolerance 8CL (Ra=0.2μm).

  • CBN tools permit metal cutting at feeds and speeds much higher than with conventional cutting tool materials.

  • CBN tools also turn, bore and face hard materials, which otherwise can be formed only by grinding.

  • Maintain a sharp cutting edge with excellent surface finishes.
